Gonstead Chiropractic Sydney | Rose Bay Specialist Clinic
Gordon Chiropractic & Exercise Physiology in Rose Bay is one of Sydney’s leading Gonstead chiropractic clinics. Dr Gavin Gordon has dedicated his career to mastering the Gonstead System — the world’s most specific and thorough chiropractic technique — and is one of a small number of chiropractors in Sydney who use it exclusively.
What Is Gonstead Chiropractic?
The Gonstead System of Chiropractic was developed by Dr Clarence S. Gonstead over five decades of clinical practice. It is distinguished from general chiropractic by its rigorous five-point diagnostic protocol — every adjustment is based on comprehensive analysis, not generalised treatment.
The five-point Gonstead analysis includes:
- Visualisation — full postural and gait assessment
- Instrumentation — nervoscope temperature differential readings along the entire spine
- Static palpation — identifying swelling, tenderness and soft-tissue changes
- Motion palpation — assessing how individual spinal segments move
- Full-spine X-ray analysis — precise mensuration (measurement) of spinal misalignment
Only vertebral levels confirmed by all five criteria are adjusted. This precision means fewer adjustments with more targeted, consistent results.
Why Gonstead? No Twisting, No Rotation
The most important difference between Gonstead chiropractic in Sydney and standard manipulation is what Gonstead does NOT do: it does not twist or rotate the spine. Standard diversified technique adjustments involve rotating the patient’s trunk or neck to produce the adjustment. This places torsional stress on spinal discs and joints.
Gonstead adjustments are applied in a specific, controlled direction — directly on the affected vertebra — without rotation. This matters enormously for patients with:
- Lumbar or cervical disc herniations
- Sciatica caused by nerve root compression
- Previous spinal surgery
- Osteoporosis or bone fragility
- Neck injuries or whiplash
EOS 3D Digital X-Ray — The Gonstead Standard in Sydney
The Gonstead System requires full-spine, weight-bearing X-rays for accurate mensuration. Our Rose Bay clinic uses the EOS 3D Digital X-ray system — Australia’s most advanced spinal imaging technology. Unlike standard X-rays taken lying down, EOS captures the full spine in a standing position under load, providing a true picture of spinal alignment.
EOS also delivers significantly lower radiation than conventional X-rays. Bulk billing is available for eligible patients.
